Quotes by Voltaire - Do you agree and Why?
by Lady Lee inok i want to stimulate some thinking.

These are all pithy and worthy quotes. Some I can concur with, while others need clarification. Morality is seldom a black or white issue but contains shades of grey.
Voltaire makes these bold statements with certainty as though they were fact, yet states: 'Doubt is not a pleasant condition, but certainty is absurd.'
By his own reckoning he becomes absurd. This illustrates the error of being dogmatic.
Nice reasoning G. :)

Eager to provide a better future for her son, Fadi (Melkar Muallem), divorcée Muna Farah (Nisreen Faour) leaves her Palestinian homeland and takes up residence in rural Illinois -- just in time to encounter the domestic repercussions of America's disastrous war in Iraq. Now, the duo must reinvent their lives with some help from Muna's sister, Raghda (Hiam Abbass), and brother-in-law, Nabeel
How we trained and armed Bin Laden:Texas congressman Charlie Wilson sets a series of earth-shaking events in motion when he conspires with a CIA operative (Philip Seymour Hoffman, in an Oscar-nominated role) to aid Afghan mujahedeen rebels in their fight against the Soviet Red Army.
VERY DARK:
Kevin Costner plays against type, starring as a man caught in a deadly downward spiral -- and at war with his own alter ego (William Hurt) -- in this psychological thriller from writer-director team Bruce A. Evans and Raynold Gideon (Stand by Me). Demi Moore co-stars as a sharp-witted police detective whose passion for her job attracts the attention -- and respect -- of the very serial killer she's tracking.

Inappropriate waste of time...only feeds their persecution complex. It was wrong when JWs did it, and it is wrong to do it to them.

I would strongly suggest that the Afghan lawmakers are the doofus, not those in Oklahoma.
I would strongly suggest that BOTH sets of lawmakers are doofuses (is that a word? is plural of doofus, doofi? )

Of course...it's not because these Christian men had/have issues with women...it's always for God...because he seem totally unable to kill people on his own.
...lots of good lines in the movie, but one I especially appreciated: when Christian and Pagans were fighting in her class..."there is more that unites us than divides us." Of course, people didn't listen then...or now...

Alejandro Amenábar (The Others) directs this epic drama based on the life of Hypatia of Alexandria, a noted Greek scholar and mathematician. Rupert Evans co-stars.

Sigh...I didn't mention Islam. I said we routinely respect other government's laws. Those governments include France, Germany, Ireland, Spain, Iceland, Portugal, etc., etc., and include agreements, like treaties, NAFTA, etc.
If you had taken a moment to process the information you read instead of overly-emotionally reacting, you would have been able to deduce such from my mention of civil procedure. :)
Every time there is a case between a U.S. plaintiff and a foreign person/corporation, one of the first issues to be decided is whose civil procedure rules will be used, or how will we blend the two. Again...THANK YOU Oklahoma dufus lawmakers for thinking you had the right to legislate such boundaries.
On a personal note, I feel Sharia law has no place in the U.S. Also, congratulations on figuring out the important things in your life...like which kind of car you want to drive. Why am I not surprised that that was an accomplishment for you.

it illegal for Oklahoma courts to take into account Sharia or other foreign law systems in their legal cases.
Overbroad. We routinely respect and apply foreign law systems in international cases. The law was good for a laugh in our Civil Procedures class however. Thank you Oklahoma lawmakers for a much welcome law-school moment of levity.
